SKYPE WON'T SIGN IN!! ;-;

Windows 7. Latest version of Skype. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling skype countless times, even going as far as deleting all traces of Skype from my computer through RegEdit and I tried renaming the folders before that. I have no antivirus or firewall. Compatability mode is not enabled. I have cleared my internet explorer cache. The live chat people have been useless, two of them totally blew me off and gave up after realizing they didn't know how to help. :{

When you say you have the latest version, what version number is it?  Click on Help > About Skype for the specific number.

What are the actual symptoms when you start Skype and try to sign in?

I'm experiencing the exact same problem, even after deleting all traces of skype and reinstalling numerous times! Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I'll ask you the same questions I asked the original poster.  More details are needed to begin to guess where to start troubleshooting.

Ok.

First thing I'd suggest trying is resetting Skype's config files with this procedure:

Quit Skype.  Hold the Windows key and type r.  In the box that comes up type %appdata% <enter>.  Scroll down to find the \Skype folder and rename it something like \Skype_old.  Restart Skype.

Note:  Renaming the Skype folder will move IM and call history to the renamed folder.  They can be recovered with a few extra steps.

Then, if the problem persists, make sure that you can browse websites with Internet Explorer, even if IE isn't your usual browser.

If IE is functioning properly, clear its' cache.  In IE click on Tools > Internet Options > General > Browsing history > Delete.

If the problem still persists, try temporarily disabling your anti - virus / firwall and see if that will let Skype connect and signin.

So you did.  My apologies.  I was thinking about another thread.

Pressing on looking for clues....

How are you connecting to the Internet?  Cable?  DSL?  Etc?

Are you at home or a company network?

Ok.  It's good to know you can connect on another machine.

A couple of troubleshooting thoughts:

If you haven't already, Click on Tools > Options > Advanced settings > Connection.  Uncheck all the boxes, save the change, and restart Skype.

If Skype still won't connect, try a portable installation which doesn't use any Skype installed configuation data.

Create a new folder \SkypePortable.  Don't make it a sub-folder of any other Skype locations.  You can actually do it on a USB thumbdrive if you want to.

Create a sub-folder, \SkypePortable\Data

Copy Skype.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone to \SkypePortable\  The source folder will be C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone you're on a 32 bit version of Win 7.

The attached .zip file here contains a small executable, StartSkype.exe, written by Super User ruwim.  Unzip SkypeSkype.exe to \SkypePortable\

When you're done, in \SkypePortable\ you'll have:

\Data

Skype.exe

StartSkype.exe

That's it.  To start Skype, double click StartSkype.exe.   See if it will connect and let you signin.
