Re: How do I stop Skype from automatically starting when I turn on my computer?

How do you do this on a PC? specifically Windows 7?

In Skype go to Tools -> Options -> General. Uncheck the option: ”Start Skype when I start Windows”. Save, Quit Skype and reboot your computer.

Make sure you're signed in to do it. I was trying for ten minutes to do it from the login menu.

These solutions do not work for me. When logged into Skype, I can go to "tools", "options", "general settings" and unselect the "start automatically..." feature, but the setting will not take because I get an immediate invalid port message. Someone suggested uninstalling, then reinstalling, Skype. Did that multiple times. Using the latest version 5.9.

Go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Connection. What do you see in the “Use port … for incoming connections” box?

Use port BLANK for incoming connections.

Check next to "use port 80 - 443 as alternatives for incoming connections"

If I should be putting something in the blank field, I'm not sure what. Not very tech savvy.

See this:

Be aware that it might be necessary to configure your router and Firewall.

Re: How do I stop Skype from automatically starting when I turn on my computer?

Thanks. Went to the link. How does one decide what number to put in the port field? I see 34249 used in the linked example. Do I just input some random number greater than 1024?

Yes. You can input any random number greater than 1024.
