I looked but can't find anything to help. I am not sure if this is posted in the right place or not, but I recently got a new computer and wanted all of my old conversations to carry over, however I signed on and they are not there. Is there a way to import those old conversations or see them again? (I no longer have the old computer although I have the the old skype folder entirely backed up.)

The multi-chats ("Group Chats") will resync over time, you will need to see what if any 1 to 1 chats sync over time as well.
Also, please see my next post as well.

So there is no way to recover them except just waiting to ever see if it ever happens?

Stop Skype.
You do have the older folders, if so, then do this:
Open a Run Command window ("Which you can do using these two keys at the same time the Windows Key("Looks Like a flag") and the "R" key"), then enter this and click the ok button on the run command window:
%appdata%\skype
Copy the folders that match the Skype name that you want the older history for there.
Start Skype.

I tried that earlier and it didn't work, but it did this time for whatever reason. Thanks!

How do you retrieve the old conversations if the messages weren't backed up?

If the old conversations were not backed up, then they are lost.
This is how you can do this in the future:
Make sure that Skype is not running on your computer (Quit). Go to Windows Start and in the Run/Search box type
%appdata%\skype
and then press Enter or OK button. This will open your Skype configuration folder. Locate there a folder with your Skype login name. Open this folder. You will find there a file with the name main.db. It might be just shown as “main” but with description Data Base File in the Type column. This file contains all your Skype conversation history on this particular computer. Make a copy of this file and save it to some location on your hard drive or a removable media.
You should always be able to restore your old conversation history by inserting the saved main.db to the corresponding location on the other computer. Overwrite the existing main.db file. Again, remember to quit Skype before doing this.
If you want to read or print your conversation history, you can make use of this free application – SkypeLogView:
