No cam in video call

When I test my web cam through the options - video settings, the test works fine.  However as soon as I try and start a video call no web cam image is available.  I tried again last night with no other applications running on the PC and still the same issue.

Any help much appreciated.

What version of Skype are you running?  Click on Help > About Skype for the specific version number.

What type webcam?

When you start a call, does the webcam icon on the toolbar on the bottom of the Skype window have a red line through it?  Does anything happen if you click on it?

Hi,

Am running v5.6.59.110 with a Microsoft Lifecam VX-5000

When I try a call it says 'cannot start webcam, try closing other apps that may be using it'.  I cannot however see what other programmes could be doing so.  Could there be something in the backgrpound?
