No audio from computer when I log into skype

Hey everyone, when I sign onto skype all audio on my computer shuts off and all i can hear is the person im skyping but i cant listen to itunes, watch videos with audio, etc. No sound is killing me
HELP?

Open Windows Sound control panel. Go to Communication tab and check the appropriate option for what Windows should do when communication activity is detected.

where is the "communications" control tab in windows? when i go to control panel, i see "sounds and audio" devices icon but no "communications" tab.

In Win 7, it's in Control Panel > Sound. There is no such setting in XP.
