My skype sends messages saying "lol is this your new profile pic" then sends it like 6 more times.

Just got the lol is this your profile pic ... it was sent several times ... i downloaded it and it came as a .zip ... i realized it was a virus and deleted the .zip file but did not open it ...just by downloading it will i get it ...

Downloading it shouldn't cause any problems, since you have to run the application in the .zip file to activate the virus (that's how trojans work).

You can even un-zip the folder without activating it, but [obviously] don't do that, another program may try to run the .exe for some reason.

Yes. This is a virus. I downloaded it and scanned it on https://www.virustotal.com and it has a detection ratio of 3/4. Also someone replied to the file with this

"This file contains a virus which spreads through skype by requesting access to the skype api after which it accepts the request on behalf of the user. Then it sends a message to all your contacts with a download message. The message says "hej er det din nye profil billede? *removed virus link*" Replace the word USERNAME with the the username of the recipent. "hej er det din nye profil billede?" seems to be a poor machine-translation to danish meaning "Hello is this your new profile picture?"

Got this message in SKYPE from a friend. Is this originating from His SKYPE?

YES---I clicked it, thinking it was from him. What do I need to do to make sure that I remove/don't get the virus?

Hi, I ran the .exe thinking that it was just a prank from my friend and would like to know if there is an easy way to remove the virus or am I just going to have to reset my computer to factory defaults?

just change your skype password seems to be a bot who feeds off accepting the download and uses your info to spam changing password would throw it off in the future dont accept it
