My Skype login screen is blank?

Hey peoples, I'm pretty new to Skype, just installed it.  However, it doesn't seem to work. I have a pic of the login screen, but can't seem to put a link to it.  Basically, the login screen is blank.  (Well, where I think the login screen should be, since I haven't tried it before)
I've tried reinstalling.

Dunno what's up with it.  Help please

Re: My Skype login screen is blank?

Please follow these Steps:

1. Only do Step 1 if you are on WIN7:

Stop Skype.

Be sure that Compatibility Mode is not enabled (right-click on Skype shortcut icon/launcher and select Properties >> Compatibility) - for Windows 7 users only.

Try to launch Skype.

2. If Step 1 fails or you are NOT using WIN7 do:

Open an Internet Explorer browser, and go to msn.com, what happens?

If it fails, Please do the instructions below. Using your Windows Control Panel, please do:

Internet Options -> Advanced Tab Please click the "Reset" button.

Then, Go to the Connections Tab.

Make sure that the only checkbox checked is "Automatically detect settings", then click the "OK" button.

Close any open Internet Explorer browser windows, open a new IE browser window and try msn.com again. What happens? If it works, please stop/start Skype What happens?

3. If Step 2 does NOT solve the problem:

Please install the normal version using the instructions below:

You can install the Current release by doing this from the top of this page:

Get Skype -> Windows -> Choose the regular release, please do NOT remove what you already have installed, simply, install over.

These instructions have worked for many and is the quickest thing to try to resolve issues such as this.

Also, what operating system are you on?

What is the Make and Model of your computer?

Do you have all Windows updates and updates to any hardware devices by the manufacturers?

Re: My Skype login screen is blank?

I'm using Vista, so I went with step two.  I opened up Internet Explorer, to find that the page is blank (rather similar to Skype...), so I went ahead and did the steps you suggested, but after reopening it, it's still blank.  I've reopened Skype, incase something changed, but it hasn't.  I've also made sure that my firewall (Comodo) isn't blocking either Skype or Internet Explorer.  I've tried reinstalling Skype, too.
I don't have the most recent Windows update though, I think.  It's on Service Pack 3.
Thanks :b

Can you login to your Skype account on Skype.com using Internet Explorer?

Re: My Skype login screen is blank?

I use Windows 7. I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100. It is fully updated. I tried everything you suggested none works. In fact, this started happening after I installed a windows update months ago. I can only login my guessing where my cursor is because it is completely blank. Any other suggestions?

Try this:

Quit Skype. Make sure that you don’t see any Skype.exe processes in Windows Task Manager. If necessary, then stop these processes. Open C:\Program Files\ folder. If you have 64-bit Windows then it should be C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder. Find the Skype folder and then Phone. Right click on the Skype.exe file and select: Send to – Desktop (create shortcut). Right click on the newly created shortcut and select Properties and then the Shortcut tab. In the Target field you will see now: "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" (or with (x86) if you are on 64-bit Windows). Click with your mouse on the text in the Target field and move your curser one space after the last quotation sign and add the text /legacylogin. The text in the Target field should now read:

"C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /legacylogin

Click OK to save the changes. Start Skype using this new shortcut. Can you now login to Skype?

I've tried reinstalling.

Try Below:

1. Ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is switched on.

Click Start and then Run Type "control folders" and click OK. In the View tab, ensure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled

2. Exit Skype : From the system tray >> right click on the skype icon and click "Quit Skype"

3. Click Start >> Run Type: "%programdata%\Skype\Apps" (without the quotes)

4. Rename the folder login to login1

5. Then go to Skype folder inside program files and go to phone folder and then right click on Skype application and select send to Desktop (Create shortcut)

Now try running Skype.

Tamim

Thank you so much for posting this!  I am using windows vista and have never been able to get skype to work.  Have never even seen the  login screen until I followed your instructions, and now it works perfectly!  Thank you!
