My Skype contact-to-contact phone call button is not active [ Edited ]

This is very difficult to explain but I will try as much as I can.  In the past, I was able to get on Skype and call my Skype contacts (friends) very easily by clicking on the Phone icon available on their Skype page.  Now that icon is no longer made available.  A good example.

This morning I had a call from a friend in Italy and the connection was bad.  I could hear her but she could not hear me very well.  She asked me to hang up and call her back.  As it worked out, after hanging up I searched all over to find the telephone icon to call her back and there was none visible.  The only visible icons were the cell phone call for which I would have had to pay and the video icon.  However, the video icon also was not functional.  Obviously, there's something terribly wrong.  I cannot call any of my friends overseas Skype-to-Skype because that facility is not available to me.  How do I fix this problem?  If anyone here know what causes this problem please, please help me.  I would be most grateful for any advice extended to me.

What version of Skype are you running?  Click on Help > About Skype for the specific version number.

Does your own status show as online?

Be aware that the Video Call button will be lightened and not functional when the contact selected is offline.  When the contact's status changing to online, the Video Call button should become bright green and clickable.

The Skype Version I am using is:  Skype 5.6.59.110.  What's visible on my Skype Screen is Skype t[5] so yes the version is visible.

My status shows on line.

I believe that it is possible that the people I try to call are off line and therefore the button is faded green instead of vivid green.  However, yesterday morning when my

girlfriend from Italy called the connection was bad and she asked me to call her back

in order to get a better connection.  When I tried to call her back through she was on line

the green button was faded green instead of vivid green and therefore did not give me an option to call her back.  She had to call me again herself and that's when I became suspicious that something might be wrong.

Thanks again for all your help and assistance.  I will keep you posted if things are back to normal.

I am sorry, I read your email again.  When you asked if my Status shows on line, did you mean my username and the Skype version I am using?  If that's what you mean the answer is yes.  If not, then I don't understand what you mean by "status".

Look at your status icon, the one left of your name. It must be solid green with a white checkmark inside.

The same must be valid for your contact. The icon shown between her profile picture and her name must also be solid green with a white checkmark inside.

I can't thank you enough.  I fixed my Status.  Next to my status icon there is now a solid green with a white checkmark inside.  The same with my contact.  So, I have come a long way thanks to you.
