Microphone sound not working

I have this wierd problem with my mic.

It's detected but it does not register any sound.

It's working fine in other applications, like in-game voice chats, mumble, ventrilo, but it does not work in Skype.

Any ideas what can cause this?

My sound-card is the on-board sound card, Realtek of some sort.

The mic is a old version of SpeedLink Lucent. Very generic.

My microphone is working on other sites but I cannot get a sound on skype.

It has worked perfectly before - what is the problem.

mic ok via conexant and control panel test. skype says its OK, but recording test fails
