Making eye contact on skype

In most of my skype video calls the other person always seems to be looking up, down, or sideways.  I had just about given up any hopes of making eye contact when suddenly yesterday a friend and I were able to look each other in the eye for about 5 minutes during a video call. Soon afterwards, however, she was again looking down.  Is there something I can do to improve eye contact on skype?  Thanks!

Re: Making eye contact on skype

I think the main problem is the location of the webcam on each end of a video call.  In most cases the webcam is located above the monitor/display, be it a laptop or desktop computer.  So you're looking at the person in the middle of the display but they're seeing you from a view above where you're looking.

Maybe one day someone will come out with a computer monitor with a webcam built in to the middle of it.  In the mean time, I try to actually look at the camera once in a while just for the very reason you describe.
