Good post on Jira but my advice is don't hold your breath.

In the mean time, assuming your family's webcams will work with Logitech Vid,  give it a try.   You'd be in widescreen all the time.

I'll do it, hoping there is a MacOS version of Vid, because my brother has only Mac

Ah.  Mac. 

I do believe there is a Mac version of Vid.  The question is will it support your brother's webcam.  If he too is using a Logitech model it should be no problem.  If he's using some other brand he'll have to try Vid to see if it works.
