Uninstall the current version of Skype, then reinstall the new Skype 5.7 beta version. See if it helps.

Please do a Skype reset:

1. Ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is switched on.

Click Start and then Run Type "control folders" and click OK. In the View tab, ensure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled

2. Exit Skype : From the system tray >> right click on the skype icon and click "Quit Skype"

3. Click Start >> Run Type: %appdata% Delete folder "Skype".

4. Re-run Skype

I was having the same problem.  I tried reinstalling and that didn't work so I tried it again.  The second time I think I downloaded an earlier version of Skype.  Whatever happened, it works now.  I'm using Skype 5.5.0.124.  Not sure if that's the newest or not.

Go back to 5.5....that worked for me.

Or wait till they get the progressive ad off it happened before same company ad triggered the crash now its back so you could wait.

Yes, the issue causing this is public knowledge. For those that wish to get Skype working quickly, that are having this issue.
