Installation trouble, Vista, deleted partition

First the computer, Acer 5100, 2gbs ram, 100gb hard drive, partitioned into c&d. Fully functional installation of older version of Skype installed on d drive.

Skype was not uninstalled from d drive, but d drive and partition was deleted, and extra space was regained into c drive.

At first, fresh install of Skype would stall, trying to find old install on d, but could not find d.

After manually removing as many skype entries in registry, fresh install now progresses to the point of error 1603, old version could not be uninstalled.

Frustrated enough to format the drive, and install win7, but willing to try other suggestions.

Thanks for your thoughts and help, Patrick

Re: Installation trouble, Vista, deleted partition

Click Start> Click Run

Paste the line below:

MsiExec.exe /X{AA59DDE4-B672-4621-A016-4C248204957A}

After That, install from here:

Re: Installation trouble, Vista, deleted partition

Pasted that line into run, it asked me if I wanted to uninstall that program.  I answered yes, and got an error stating that it could not find the program to uninstall.  Then tried to re-install using that link, and got the same 1603 error, only difference is that this version is looking to uninstall version 5.7, the last was looking to uninstall version 5.5.  I had also disabled the antivirus and firewall program before starting the install (Norton internet security).  Was thinking of re-creating the d partition, to see if it would install there, then once that install is complete, uninstall it, then delete the partition and reinstall to c.  Your thoughts, as always, are greatly appreciated.

Re: Installation trouble, Vista, deleted partition

"The older version of skype 5.7 cannot be uninstalled"

I tried re-creating the d drive, to see if that would work, but it did not.  The newly created d drive was then deleted to re-gain the space.

Reading the instructions on the page for that "fix it", it said that it would work on 64 bit, I'm running 32bit vista, does that matter?

Thanks for your continued help, Pat

Re: Installation trouble, Vista, deleted partition

I’m not sure if this will work, but you can try.

Go to Windows Start and in the Search box type %programdata%\skype, press Enter. In the directory that will open, can you see a folder with the name {D0197E45-D866-44D0-90AF-529F28F15ABA}? If so, then open this folder, right click on the Skype.msi file and select Uninstall.

Go to C:\ProgramData\Skype\{D0197E45-D866-44D0-90AF-529F28F15ABA} and make a copy of the existing msi-file. Paste it as a copy in the same directory, and rename it to: SkypeSetup_5.7.0.123.msi

Now tried to install again
