I tried to dowload skype and install it, but halfway through I had some error message with a 7 in it, it said something about the toolbar not being installed correctly.
After it installed, I tried to log on, but all that does is send me to a file index:
Index of file:///C:/ProgramData/Skype/Apps/login/
I've uninstalled, deleted, and redownloaded and installed twice now; and each time I get the same response. of opening an index file in Firefox.
Ideas anyone?

I think the problem you are experiencing is the same or similar to the one being discussed in the thread below. please visit the thread to see if the suggestion there would also work in your case.
C:/ProgramData/Skype/Apps/login/ ERROR

Try Below:
1. Ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is switched on.
Click Start and then Run Type "control folders" and click OK. In the View tab, ensure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled
2. Exit Skype : From the system tray >> right click on the skype icon and click "Quit Skype"
3. Click Start >> Run Type: "%programdata%\Skype\Apps" (without the quotes)
4. Rename the folder login to login1
5. Then go to Skype folder inside program files and go to phone folder and then right click on Skype application and select send to Desktop (Create shortcut)
Now try running Skype.
