Are there 10 people allowed to be on a video conference if you are using only the FREE skype version?

I do not need video, I only need audio but I only have FREE skype.

With audio only group calls there can be 25 particpants and none need to have a paid account.  For video group calls, the limit is 10 and one particpant must have a Premium subscription.

Hi g4pilut, I have paid for Skype premium and I just tried to host a video call with 2 other people and the video won't work for anyone on the call only the audio - any ideas why this might be? The best quality we managed to achieve with video was a freeze frame picture of one of us!

I can suggest a few steps to try:

1)  Make sure everyone is running the latest beta version of Skype, v5.7.0.137.  You can get the installer from this link:  www.skype.com/go/getskype-beta

2)  Instead of starting a call one-to-one and adding the 3rd person, select both contacts from your contact list by holding the Ctrl key and clicking on each of them, and then clicking Video Call.   Sometimes starting the call all at once works better than adding particpants one at a time.
