[FIX] Skype Keeps Crashing

Just thought some info would help to fix the problem.
I am  running 5.5 (or I would be if it worked, Skype 5.5 stopped working for me on 11/18/2011) I did a system restore thinking it might have been a windows update that corrupted skype, that worked up until today 11/20/2011 when skype began to crash again. And this is what I got.

Can i ask what exactly was done? my skype is doing the same thing i don't understand what i need to do to fix it. do i download an old version? what is the beta version?

I downloaded the Beta ver.5.7 and it corrected the problem. Skype is back up and running.

After my wife let skype install an update tonight it developed the same problem: crashing just after starting. I eventually remembered the site www.oldapps.com and downloaded a version of skype from May 2011. Uninstalled the latest one, deleted all the folders in appdata and program fils. Then install the old one and it works fine.

Hey so what did you do to fix it? Im stil having trouble here I have tried all the rcommended suggestions and still nothing

I am using the BETA and I still get Skype crash as soon as I boot (just around the time the contacts load and the Skype home is about to load).

I've tried deleting the Shared.xml etc to no avail.
