Error on updating Skype, cannot un-install or re-install

Hi there,

I was running Skype ver 5.5 (on Windows) and got the prompt to update. I clicked no, but as it kept coming up every time I launched Skype I thought I'd better do it. The update failed (something about ver 5.8 and fatal error code 1603) and so after trying a few times (and searching help here) I decided I should just uninstall and reinstall Skype... Neither of which worked either (even after manually deleting the folders which I tried last).

Please help, now I have no Skype at all, and cannot reinstall it whatever I do (and I use it daily as part of my job).

Just an update to say that I *think* I've fixed this. I used a registry fix program and was able to relaunch Skype successfully...

It still says it's version 5.5 though, but I'm reluctant to update (and haven't been prompted to yet) if it's going to risk putting me back in the same situation.

Glad you're back up-and-running.  If you want to try updating again you might try this link:

I have deleted all entires that I believe are in the registry containing the word skype, I have had this pc for only 18 months and downloaded skype not long after buying it, then was asked to update and have not been able to use skype on this computer since, why is there no fix for this problem it wont let me uninstall, no matter how hard I try, why isnt skype sorting this problem i dont have a problem on mky ph or laptop just my pc running vista, do I need a new computer I have ben told skype is like a virus once its on you cannot get rid of it???? please can someone help I have allready spent about 40 hours over 18 months trying to fix only to go back to the same old screen failed to unninstall?????????????????
