'Email Me When Someone Replies' Option

Hello.

When this box is 'checked' at the top of a new message, does an email notification get sent that states that someone has replied to the post?

If the box is not 'checked' when a new message is initially posted, can it be 'checked' again at a later time?

Re: 'Email Me When Someone Replies' Option

if you just view an existing thread, you can subscribe to it by enabling this option, which ,means you will get an email alert for each and every post that occurs in this thread from that point forward (until you manually unsubscribe)

on the other hand, by default, if you post a message in an existing thread for the first time, you are automatically subscribed to the thread (once again, until you unsubscribe)

you can also turn off the automatic subscription feature in your forum profile if that is preferable

Hello.

That does not answer my question though.

When a checkmark is placed beside the 'Email me when someone replies' option at the top of a new message, are email notifications sent when someone replies to the posting?

If a checkmark is not placed when a new message is posted, can a checkmark be placed at a later time or is that option only available when a new post is created?

when you post a brand new message (i.e. not posting in an existing thread) you are creating a brand new thread (i.e. topic)

you see the tick by default because, as I said, by default profile setting you will be subscribed to the thread, and you will receive email notification when anyone posts a new message in the thread until you unsubscribe from the thread

while viewing any thread that you are NOT subscribed to, you can subscribe at any time by clicking Topic Options (to the right of the Reply button) and selecting Subscribe

That 'still' does not answer my question though. I am 'only' referring to this particular option setting in the top right corner for threads that 'I' create.

I realize that the checkmark is there by default and that 'subscribes' me to a thread that I create and I can choose to 'uncheck' it if desired and that will not 'subscribe' to a thread that I create-Yes/No?

By placing a checkmark beside the 'Email me when someone replies' option when creating a new thread, would I receive email notifications when someone replies to the posting? Yes/No?

If a checkmark is 'not' placed when creating a new thread, will that option be displayed the next time I open 'my' thread or is that option 'only' available when a new thread is created?

If you 'still' do not understand my 'specific' question, please leave it and someone else will respond.

the option is displayed when you CREATE a new thread or when you REPLY to an existing thread, and it would be trivial for you to see this by partially going through the motions of doing either

it isn't displayed when you just OPEN (i.e. READ) anything, but you can SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE using the Topic Options as I described ANY TIME YOU READ an existing thread, so it really doesn't matter

and you call yourself a techie??? . . . good grief
