Windows XP, Skype 5.3
I have been unable to update or uninstall Skype 5.3.
Uninstall fails with the following message:
"The installed product does not match the installation source(s).
Until a matching source is provided or the installed product and source are
synchronized, this action can not be performed."
The video for the incoming call has been corrupted for the last year or so, distorted and squeezed into a corner, out of its display area, and heavily pixelated. On occasion, the entire conversation interface becomes pixelated and I need to use the drop down menu to hang-up.
My camera functions correctly, and I can send video.
What do I do?
I think you can forced uninstall Skype by using a third party program like the Revo uninstaller;
Are there any special instructions or is it simply a case of running the uninstaller?
I would have expected a Skype specific solution, but perhaps that doesn't matter.
I need clarification.
I have installed and run Revo, but all it has done is (step #2) use "the program's built in uninstall for a default uninstall", which takes me back to the initial problem, ie "the installed product doesn't match the installation source... etc... ok or cancel", leaving me no option but to cancel.
Revo then moves on to step 3, which says "after the program's uninstaller has finished, scan for leftover folders, files, registry items".
Do I run step 3 despite the fact that step 2 failed? i suppose that this is the forced uninstall, but i want to aoid making a mistake.
Update: Success but the problem is not fixed
I have successfully uninstalled the corrupt version of Skype 5.3 using Revo, and installed the latest version.
However, my video is still corrupt!
My camera works fine, I have tested it using other software and the picture is normal.
In Skype, however, the video is still pixelated and distorted.

Hello, is that the same as Display Adapter? if so, ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700
driver version: 184.108.40.20630
My video in and out is perfectly fine in Google chat and other software, it is exclusively in Skype that the incoming Video is corrupted. My outgoing video is fine.
I see you have been involved in simillar threads, Ruwim.
My laptop is quite old, last driver date is 2004. I'm pretty sure that I have the latest available version, and I think that i updated it/redownled it to try cure this very problem.
I was suddenly hopeful after reading other similar thread that was sorted by reverting to a previous nvidia driver.
I'll see if I can find the latest driver for mine, perhaps that became corrupted?
Why just Skype though?
The way how Skype is using video drivers is quite different from other applications. I must admit that that when asking you about the video driver I was hopping that you will answer: the latest nVidia driver, but you have ATI Radeon.
