Cannot access Skype

I've been using Skype for almost 2 years now. about 2 months ago I tried adding a contact and I got a blank window, I asked about it and didn't get a reply. Now, I have decided to uninstall skype completely and re-install. I cannot even log-in now, I get a blank window again. I've re-installed it twice, fixed my security settings on Norton 360, and it still will not work. Does anyone know what to do? I'm needing this for school and work so I need help as soon as possible.

Re: Cannot access Skype

What version of Internet Explorer do you have installed on your computer? Please note, that Skaype depends on Internet Explorer, regardless which browser you are using.

Re: Cannot access Skype

Both the problem in the old Skype with the Add a contact window and now with login are probably related to problems with your Internet Explorer and scripting. Just for testing if JavaScript is enabled, pleas open this page in your Internet Explorer:

mistered.us/test/alert.shtml

and press the “Simply Click This Button” button. What response are you getting?

Re: Cannot access Skype

The problem might thus be not in IE not being able to perform scripting but something else.

Using your File Explorer open this folder:

C:\ProgramData\Skype\Apps\login

You should see there a file with the name index.html. It may be that you will only see the name index (if your system is set to not showing file extensions for known file types) but you will se description HTML Document in the Type column. If IE is your default browser, then double click on this file to open it in IE. Otherwise, right click and select Open with -> Internet Explorer. You should now be able to see a page showing the new login window with all elements drawn on it (name box, password box, e.t.c.). Is this the case?

Please follow these Steps:

1. Only do Step 1 if you are on WIN7:

Stop Skype.

Be sure that Compatibility Mode is not enabled (right-click on Skype shortcut icon/launcher and select Properties >> Compatibility) - for Windows 7 users only.

Try to launch Skype.

2. If Step 1 fails or you are NOT using WIN7 do:

Open an Internet Explorer browser, and go to https://login.skype.com/account/login-form?intcmp=sign-in&return_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.skype.com%... , what happens?

If you see a message box that contains a connect button, please click on the connect button.

If the page fails to display, Please do the instructions below. Using your Windows Control Panel, please do:

Internet Options -> Advanced Tab Please click the "Reset" button.

Then, Go to the Connections Tab.

Make sure that the only checkbox checked is "Automatically detect settings", then click the "OK" button.

Close any open Internet Explorer browser windows, open a new IE browser window and try https://login.skype.com/account/login-form?intcmp=sign-in&return_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.skype.com%... again. What happens? If it works, please stop/start Skype What happens?

3. If Step 2 does NOT solve the problem:

Please install the normal version using the instructions below:

You can install the Current release by clicking this link: http://download.skype.com/SkypeSetup.exe

Please do NOT remove what you already have installed, simply, install over.

These instructions have worked for many and is the quickest thing to try to resolve issues such as this.

Also, what operating system are you on?

What is the Make and Model of your computer?

Do you have all Windows updates and updates to any hardware devices by the manufacturers?

OK. This also shows that the problem might not be in your Internet Explorer or problems with scripting. What I would suggest is to try a procedure that will bypass the new login screen in Skype.

Go to Windows Start and in the Search box type and then press Enter

%programfiles%\skype\phone\skype.exe /legacylogin

I presume that your Vista is 32 bit. In the case it’s 64 bit, replace %progarmfiles% with %programfiles(x86)%.

This command should force Skype to start with the old login screen (the same as was used in e.g.ver. 5.3). Can you login using this login window?
