Can't sign in - Opens Explorer window /Apps/login/ [ Edited ]

I always used to have Skype on my computer but when I tried to update to the new version it doesn't let me sign in no more. When I press 'sign in' it opens file:///C:/ProgramData/Skype/Apps/login/ and that's it. I tried to uninstall it and install again. Tried to install different (older) versions.. nothing works, still the same. Please, can you help me with this problem? Thank you!

Why can't I open Skype, A Skype screen flashes across my screen ,and thats it, also when I try to open Skpe icon on the bottom of my screen, I can see a Skype screen, but then disappears. thank you.

You are experiencing a very common problem. Skype 5.5 and later depends heavily on Internet Explorer (IE) and Microsoft Scripting Engine. In particular, the install/uninstall procedure of Click to Call requires functioning VBscript and Skype login requires Internet Explorer being able to access JavaScript. There are currently about 100 different threads on this community forum dealing with this issue. In some cases the Fix It procedure from

i am having a similar problem. i can log onto my skype account on the web, but when i type in my name and password to connect to skype, it times out and i can't connect.

Care to share which of those 8000 solutions worked for you?

And does anyone know why skype isn't fixing this on their end rather than requiring every user to go get a masters degree in computer science and rebuild both their hardware and their operating system from scratch?

I can only speculate but what I believe is probably the answer to that question is the issue is hard to replicate.  Yes, there have been a good number of posters having the problem on the forum, but I've never been able to see it here, nor has anyone else I'm personally in contact with.  There are currently just under 30 million users online at the moment and they apparently don't see the problem either.

Not that this makes it any easier when you have a problem, but man, there are sooooo many combinations and configurations of hardware, firmware, software, out there it can be a nightmare to troubleshoot.

can't sign in to skype, uninstalled and now error 2738 appears on skype toolbar.  Have Windows XP.  Never had problems until today. How to get rid of error and install again.
