So, I type my surname and password and just as the screen is loading Skype freezes and a window pops saying Skype has stopped working. I've done everything I've been told to do by help forums and I still can't sign in. It's getting very frustrating.
Is there anything I haven't tried that may fix it? I've uninstalled and reinstalled Skype, checked my firewalls, Windows Updates (I use Windows 7), checked if another Skype is running and other stuff.
I don't know what to do.

Open Windows Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events. Look for any error messages with timestamp corresponding with Skype crash.

Almost same problem, appeared today after reboot (due to windowsupdate) and skype update to latest.
Win7 64bit ultimate, all recent ms updates, latest skype. Crashes immediately after pressing enter after typing anything (even definitely wrong combination) in login/password window.
Tried /legacylogin, saw old logon window, almost same result.

Yes, looks like I'm not alone.
Computer is protected by Kaspersky Antivirus 2012 with actual virus database, additionally checked by few rootkit revealers - clean.

Actually you may try temporally to disable Kaspersky antivirus/firewall and see if this helps. There have been several examples of some antivirus applications conflicting with Skype. Just an idea to try.

I had joined SKYPE and had it working then I heard in the middle of the night that skpye was trying to access my account so I was tired and hit the block tab now when I try to log in it won't let me, I keep getting the can't connect to skype message. Can someone contact me and let me know what to do...these messages are not answering my problem.
Most likely it was your Firewall, Antivirus or another Internet security application that was asking you to allow Skype access to Internet. You have blocked this access and now Skype cannot connect. You must find this application and redo the blocking.
