Can't close Skype 5.5.0.124 on Windows 7 (64bit) when click Close button

It is annoying that you can't close skype but what you can do is right click the program when it is open in your taskbar and click quit skype. You may get a popup saying you will be unable to make calls but it will close skype and stop it running until you reopen it

Skype - helloooooo. When I click the X in the box, it should shut down.... Or did I miss the 'break the rules for windows' meeting?

I bloody hate it too. When I click the X, give me the option to minimize or just close skype. Your application will eventually blue screen my machine, if left open continuously. I really hate having to open process monitor and kill the process.

I'm having the same problem.  How do you get it to close without unintalling it?

Skype I can click on an application when I want to use it.  It does not have to be open 24/7.  Frankly this is really f'n annoying.

That is a bizarre and outrageous reply and not a solution at all.

The problem is a bug and it is extremely annoying.

Just right-click on skype on the taskbar and select 'Quit Skype'.

Doh. The idea is to close the Window and leave Skype running minimized.

If you don't mind a small .bat file on your desktop here is a way to close skype for sure. Using notepad create a file on your desktop (or wherever):

File contents: taskkill /F /IM skype.exe /T

Filename: kill-skype.bat

When you double click the file it will completely close skype no matter what it is doing.

I truly am dissapointed two.

I'm thinking about contracting our business VOIP telephone lines to other providers.

Skype has gone backwards and backwards way to much, it's like they don't know what customer service means?

issues:

- privacy violation

- can't quit skype on windows 7

- The phones that have integrated skype don't work after an update. (this is about phone centrals and fixt lines, not selfphones)

- several technical errors

I don't even get the option to quit skype in the toolbar (only to "close window", which does absolutely nothing!). The only option is to go through Task Manager to close it down. does anyone from skype actually read thes comments and recognize the frustration that this is causing ...

Are you by chance running your Skype “As Administrator”? The Quit option is not available on the taskbar icon of Windows 7 if Skype is set to “Run As Administrator” mode.

What happens if you Quit Skype using the system try icon?
