Can't change password

I can't change my password.

I log in and choose "Change your password". I enter my current one, and then the new one (twice). I always get the message "Please choose a password between 6-20 characters.", no matter how my password looks. I am using only upper/lower case letters and numbers.

A password must:

• Be at least 6 characters and not longer than 20 characters.
• Contain at least one letter and one number.
• Not have any spaces.
• Not contain your Skype Name (case insensitive).
• Not be a part of Skype Name (case insensitive).

Your password also cannot contain any of the following words:

• 1234
• 4321
• qwert
• test
• skype
• myspace
• password
• abc123
• 123abc
• abcdef
• iloveyou
• letmein
• ebay
• paypal

Thank you for that clarification, but I am following all those rules. I generate passwords using LastPass, for example 7yAy1gGEhoOIMutjp is not accepted.

i'm assuming that you are trying to change the password on the web. Could you try to reset the password in the Skype client instead (Skype > Change Password) to see if it's a browser issue and report back.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that I have seen somewhere on Skype.com (can't find this anymore) that a password must not start with a number, so the example "7yAy1gGEhoOIMutjp" would not work.

I've tried to change my account password to the one mentioned above and it worked both on the web (with Firefox 5) and in the Skype client (Skype 5.5 Beta for Windows). So a password can very well start with a number.

Are you trying to change the password on another platform/device?

Yes, it worked now when I tried it in the client. After that I tried it in the browser again, and then it worked on the web too... Before, I tried several different generated passwords. I am using Firefox 5.0 with add-on LastPass 1.74.

Maybe there is some database state or something that makes it impossible to change password on the web, and that is reset when the password is changed through the client... I don't know. Anyway, it works for me now and I can't recreate the problem.

Hi liloflaguna,

Just wondering where exactly (at what stage) you are having problems. Try to sign in to both the Skype client on your PC and to the account page on the web to see if there's a difference and take it from there.

This might sound quite obvious (and may not apply in your case) but note that you cannot use the temporary code received via email in place of your password on the ‘Sign in’ screen. Enter the code manually here to change the password.

Dear skype staff, don't make it so **bleep** hard to change the password and when you create an account you enter like three names! I didn't even know my name on skype until today and I got skype like three years ago. I've always tried to change my password but i couldn't because i got these tokens that didn't work and now I bugged the **bleep**s out of the program and now I can have which password I like.
