Can't See My Text

I can see the text as I'm typing it, but once it is sent, I see nothing in the conversation window. I cannot see the text of others who send me text in the conversation window. Simply put, I see absolutely no chat text in conversation windows. I did try scrolling down, up, everywhere, to no avail.  All the conversation text I see is stuck back three days ago.  I scroll down to the last text line in the conversation window, type in my text (which I can see as I type it), and as soon as I hit enter, my text disappears, and the conversation text jumps up 15-20 lines.  This is only happening in one specific contact "group".  I do not have this problem with any single contact, or any other group.

I have tried removing Skype, rebooting, and even downloaded and installed the latest and greatest version 5.5.59.124, but this didn't help.  I thought the clean install would allow me to start over in Skype, but my old contact list and previous conversations are imbedded somewhere, and no matter what I try, every time I load Skpye, and look at recent conversations, there they are.

I am at my wits end as to how to get rid of this haunted group.  Can anyone help?

Re: Can't See My Text

Okay, so I just talked to a staff member from Skype and he gave me these instructions that worked! I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but here it is just incase. And also for other people with the same problem as us:

Close Skype completely

To do this, right-click the Skype icon in the system tray at the bottom of the screen. Select Quit.

Note about your Contact List

There is no need to backup your Contact List. They are stored centrally on Skype’s server. You can access them from anywhere, providing you sign in to Skype with the same Skype Name and password. You can see a detailed list of your calls and SMS messages at:
https://secure.skype.com/store/myaccount/history.html

Save your chat history, if you want to

  1. Click Start. In the search field, type run. Press Enter.
  2. In the Run window that appears, type %appdata%\skype and click OK. Your account folder appears in a new window.
  3. Copy the account folder with your Skype Name to another safe place. For example, copy it to your Desktop, burn it to a CD, or save it on a USB memory stick or card.

Uninstall Skype

  1. Click Start, In the search field, type run. Press Enter.
  2. In the Run window that appears, type appwiz.cpl and click OK. A function called Uninstall or Change Programs appears – it is part of your Control Panel.
  3. In the list under Organize, scroll down and select Skype. Right-click and select Uninstall.

Delete the Skype application folder

  1. Click Start. In the search field, type run. Press Enter.
  2. In the Run window that appears, type %appdata% and click OK.
  3. Delete the whole Skype folder.

Delete entries from the Registry Editor

  1. Click Start. In the search field, type run. Press Enter.
  2. In the Run window that appears, type regedit and click OK. The Registry Editor window appears.
  3. Select Edit from the top menu and click Find. Type Skype into the Find what field.
  4. Right-click on the Skype entry that appears in the search results and click Delete.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until there are no entries found.

Install the latest version of Skype

You can find this at:

http://www.skype.com/go/download

Restore your chat history, if you want to

  1. Quit Skype. To do this, right-click the Skype icon in the system tray at the bottom of the screen. Select Quit.
  2. Click Start. In the blank field that appears, type run. Press Enter.
  3. In the Run window that appears, type, %appdata%\skype and click OK.
  4. Replace the folder showing your Skype Name with the file that you saved to a safe place.

Re: Can't See My Text

Hello here is the solution.

1. Sign out and quit the Skype aplication

2. Open Windows Explorer and type in address bar : %appdata%\skype

3. Delete the folder that have the name of your Skype account and the others two files called  "shared.lck" and "shared" (the second has .xml extension).

You are done,

Regards.

What version of Windows are you on (XP, Vista, Windows 7)?

What is the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer?

In Internet Explorer go to Help -> About Internet Explorer.

P.S. Please, don’t say that you are not using Internet Explorer. This is irrelevant. Skype depends on Internet Explorer.
