Can't Find an existing User [ Edited ]

Dear All,

I am trying to add a friend on skype. He gave me his skype name and email address, but I cant find him. 
He also cant find me. I gave him my email address and skype name .. but no luck.

I am having the exact same problem trying to locate someone thru their skype name only as that is all I have, also when I also try to look up someone by their full name it still dosen't work? I have the most updated version and still had these problems and since then reset back to my oroginal version but to no avail. Either way it's not working and I even followed the detailed instructions for Windows 7 users etc that was posted elsewhere on this forum. When is skype going to fix it for us?

What happens when you are looking for your own Skype name?

It states skype name not found

Also when I login to my skype it opens but there is a message on the home page stating

'skype home is unavailable at the moment, check back later to see news and alerts'  but this hasn't changed in 3 days now.  Not sure if this is indicative of an underlying problem with not finding an exisiting user while searhing for either their skype name or my skype name?

Figured it out, for some reason my skype was set to offline this whole time???  So once I changed that it all started working!

I am using version 5.8.0.865 and I cannot find a friend by username to add him as contact.
He gave me his username and mail address, and all I find are another 6 people with similar username, but not him.
I already triple-checked his address and username.

What do you suggest?
