skype won't recognize my speakers or microphone

My speakers and microphone work with all other programs on my computer but not skype. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled skpye and have gone over the test and my equipment but nothing seems to fix the problem.

Re: skype won't recognize my speakers or microphone

What version of Windows are you running?

What version of Skype?  Click on Help > About Skype for the version number.

What type mic?

If you go to Tools > Options > Audio settings, what do you see displayed in the Microphone and Speakers windows?   If you click on the down arrow are there other choices available?

Re: skype won't recognize my speakers or microphone

Is there any response on the Microphone Volume bar when you make any sound?

Can you hear any sound when pressing the green test button next to the Speakers settings?

Are there more than one option available in the dropdown boxes for Microphone and Speakers settings?
