"Skype is already signed in on this computer."

Well, I can't figure this out. Every time I try to sign in to skype from the client, I get the message "Can't open Skype. You are already signed in on this computer. Please sign out and try again."

I'm not signed in on any computer, and furthermore, a couple of people have told me over IRC that I'm not showing as signed in. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but to no avail. I can sign in from IMO, on the same machine, but the client just doesn't work.

Any ideas here?

INB4: This has been going on for about a week or more.

Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata%, press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old. Restart Skype.

N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

It does not allow me to do so. It says file currently in use/or open in some other location. It also does not let me end task using task manager.

Reboot you computer in Safe mode and then try to rename the %appdata%\Skype folder.
