I have tried numerous times to install Skype on my Vista Home Premium PC. Everytime I do the install - it appears to install then I get an error message stating: "Installation of Skype failed; error 1618. Another installation is in progress..." No other install is nor was performed. The odd thing is - I now have a Skype account - yet I don't and cannot get the software to install. How can I get an account established (which is part of the download process); yet can't install the software? Seems if one part of an install works - the whole install should work or the entire install should fail.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Using the instructions below, please install the beta version:
If you have the normal Skype version installed, please install the beta version, if you have the beta version installed please install the normal version from Skype.com, please do NOT remove the current Skype installation, install over it.
You can install the current release or the Current beta release by doing this from the top of this page:
Get Skype -> Windows -> Choose the normal or beta release, please do NOT remove what you already have installed, simply, install over.
These instructions have worked for many and is the quickest thing to try to resolve issues such as this.
Also, what operating system are you on and do you have all Windows updates and updates to any hardware devices by the manufactures?
I am having the same problem with my Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. I cannot seem to find a beta version of Skype for Windows to download. Is this still available?
Before trying to isolate an issue, it's always best that one is running the latest Skype release. Which may in itself resolve the issue.
A new version has just been released July 28, 2011:
Please click the "Get Skype" link at the top of this page and download the normal version of Skype, NOT the beta version to get this new version.
This new version is 188.8.131.52 to check what version you have, using the main Skype client window please do:

If you have already tried to install the normal release, and it failed with this error, please copy/paste the link below into the browser window of your choice and then click the "FixIt" Icon/button:
This is from Windows Installer Error Codes.
Error code 1618: Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.
Did you re-boot and then try the install again already?
I hope that this was not a question to me. What I wrote, was only information about the
error code reported in this thread. Nothing else. I don’t have any problems with Skype. Not yet. :smileyhappy:

No it was not.
I personally have seen error 1618 hang around ("Even after a reboot") if a MSI installer died in a strange way.
So, I wanted to make sure that their folders are correct, and see what their status is, since I made my post.
