I’m not sure at all, but what happens might be caused by Skype trying to switch the video mode to HD, but this fails because your computers hardware is not capable of managing HD. He procedure Skype is using to adjust video quality is far from perfect yet.

 

If you have an available PCI slot on your motherboard, then you can try to install an USB 2.0 card. This may help but I’m still not sure.

 

With your computer specifications you may also consider to use another webcam, which is not HD.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. 

 

My HP notebook does have a PCMCIA slot.  I wanted to get USB 2.0 ports for other uses anyway so today I bought a USB 2.0 PC Card.  When I tried using the HD C615 webcam through the USB 2.0 port, the video wasn't moving.  In fact the mouse cursor was frozen.  A while later the system just quit, no warning, no messages, and no BSOD.  It was a hard power turn-off.

 

I got the same hard power turn-off just using a USB flash drive in the new USB 2.0 card.  With the PC Card plugged in but with no external connections the PC stays powered-up continuously.

 

Suggestions?

It looks like that there are problems with the USB port drivers. Have you tried to uninstall and then reinstall these drivers? Open Windows Device Manager. Do you see any exclamation signs on the USB devices?

It is my understanding that USB 2.0 support was added to Windows with the sp1 release of Windows XP in the fall of 2002.  If that is the case, do my USB drivers seem old?  I have included basic info on my USB drivers in the table below.

 

If I were to uninstall and reinstall my USB drivers, exactly which ones should i do?

This is a very technical question, and I’m absolutely not the expert, but all the drivers look to be very old.

Thanks for your earlier suggestion to try a non-HD webcam.  I replaced the Logitech C615 HD webcam with a Logitech C210 (VGA resolution) webcam.  Now I can get a video stream with Tools->Options->Video settings  that does not flip at all,even when left to run for hours.  Also the SKYPE.EXE cpu usage used to be in the mid to upper 40's %.  Now with the C210 the cpu usage is in the lower to mid 20's %.

 

However, a few days ago I tried to do a video call with my contact (relative) and I could see and hear my contact but my contact could hear me but NOT SEE me!  At some point during the call I captured the Call Technical Info from the CALL MENU of Skype.  Also, my PC runs Windows and my contact has a MAC computer.  For the call my contact was the one who placed the call.

 

Below is the call technical information that I captured at some point

during the failed call.  This technical info is exactly as I copied it from

Skype into Microsoft NOTEPAD with the exception that I substituted

place holders in square brackets for my Skype Name and my contact's

I see this problem on my moms computer when she skypes me. she just installed new Microsoft lifeCam 720 HD camera. when she calls, the image flips constantly vertically. I have no idea what USB her computer has. is there no Skype fix for this?

Have this issue as well, never had this issue with MSN messenger, now that its switching over to skype, I come too skype and have no end of issues, this being the greatest of them. Are they going to fix it?

Have you tried to connect your webcam to another USB port? It must be 2.0 port and avoid using unpowered USB hub. Also make sure that your Windows has all the recent Windows Updates installed.

Yes, it is still doing it, also my gfx card drivers are up to date. I am using a 680 GTX Nvidea Gforce. my Motherboard is an intel.

 

Edit:

My windows updates are all upto date too :happy:

It still works fine on Yahoo messenger, and Msn Messenger. They are however the only two chat things I have used up to this point. But as soon as I try skype it goes up side down and back to normal over and over really fast. I've even tried turning switch cam as others have said that effects asus mother boards but that has not helped.

 

Always loved Msn messenger, if I cannot get skype to work properly because it has issues with web cam comparability, I guess I can use Yahoo messenger with friends but its a shame.
