Update error

Skype suddenly wants me to update, but when I do it only gets as far as this error message  :...failed:  code 2 cannot find the file specified.  What is going on?

Re: Update error

What version of Windows are you on (XP, Vista, Windows 7)? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?

Try to update Skype using this msi-installer for the currently latest 6.2.0.106 version:

Went to http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.2.0.106.msi

Even when I try to set up as super administrator I get the following message (attached)

I managed to extract the Skype.exe file from the msi file you sent.  That seems to open Skype 6.2.0.106.  I would still like to know what was happeneing to give me those error messages.

Thank you.

Re: Update error

This error message indicates insufficient permissions on the C:\ProgramData\Skype folder. See e.g. this:

http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Installing-Skype/m-p/1411472#M115971

If you have extracted Skype.exe from the msi-file, then you can just replace your current Skype.exe file with the extracted one.

http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows/How-to-update-Skype-without-using-any-Skype-installer/m-p/7073...

You can do the same with the extracted “login” folder from the C:\ProgramData\Skype\Apps\ folder, but for this you again need to grant access to this folder on your hard drive. Maybe turning UAC off will help.

Re: Update error

The problem is that I can NOT download the latest Skype.  So doing this this before I send this message is problematical.  How can I resolve this issue?  Skype offers NO useful help at all.

What exactly happens when you are trying to download Skype?

You can try this msi-installer for the currently latest Skype 6.3.0.105 version:
