Re: Trying to Install Skype Error Code: 2738

Please, answer first these questions:

What version of Windows are you on? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218

Go to Windows Start and in the Search box type winver.exe and then press Enter.

What is the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer?

In Internet Explorer go to Help -> About Internet Explorer.

P.S. Please, don’t say that you are not using Internet Explorer. This is irrelevant. Skype depends on Internet Explorer.

Re: Trying to Install Skype Error Code: 2738

I have recently had the same problem as hahnsolo4.

Been using skype before Microsoft bought it and have been using the the skype app (not the web browser based version) so how and why does it depend on 'Internet Explorer'.

Since I could neither uninstall or re-install the app I had to boot in Safe Mode and delete the files in 'Program Files' folder and also delete registry entries (whatever I could find).

Skype is at least gone from the control panel 'Add Remove Prog list'.

Have not been able to install a fresh version..... still trying.....

There is no web browser based version of Skype, at least not yet.

Skype is very dependent on Internet Explorer and Windows Scripting. Since version 5.5 , IE and JavaScript is used to create and manage the login and the “Add a contact” windows. Without working Internet Explorer and JavaScript you will not be able to login to Skype.

The 2738 error means that VBscript is not functioning on your computer. VBscript is used in the process of uninstalling/reinstalling of Skype toolbars (Click-to-Call).

The procedure for correcting these problems depends on your system configuration, and therefore you need to answer the above questions.

Re: Trying to Install Skype Error Code: 2738

I am running a 64-bit version of windows 7.

I do not regularly use internet explorer, i still keep it on as my back up browser.

I use Opera as my Default browser.

Re: Trying to Install Skype Error Code: 2738

I updated to Internet Explore 9. It still gave me the error message, but it seems to be working properly now, I have logged in and still have all my contacts.

Thank you for your assistance.

Re: Trying to Install Skype Error Code: 2738

Hi, I have the exact same problem as the OP.  I am running Windows 7 64 bit and have internet explorer 9 installed.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling plus numerous 'fix it' options in the forums to no avail.  Please help!

Try this:

Go to Windows Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on Command Prompt, select 'Run as administrator'.

The Command Prompt window should show:

C:\Windows\SysWoW64>

If this is not the case, then in the Command Prompt type:  cd c:\windows\syswow64 and press Enter.

Type this and then press Enter:

regsvr32 jscript.dll

Next type this and press Enter:

regsvr32 jscript9.dll

Next type this and press Enter:

regsvr32 vbscript.dll

After each Enter you should receive a message saying that DllRegisterServer in XXX.dll succeeded.

Reboot your computer.

Make now the test showing if your Internet Explorer can execute JavaScript.

Open in your Internet Explorer (no other browser but only IE 32-bit version) this page:

http://www.mistered.us/test/alert.shtml

Click on the “Simply Click This Button” button and watch the response.
