Skype won't install - Wins 7 64 bit

I am trying to install Skype on Wins 7 64 bit. Everytime I install it does not complete and I get the error "Skype has stopped working" If I view the problem details it says "Problem Event Name: BEX" I have tried different versions, different fixes I found online. Nothing works. Anyone know how to fix this?

If your PC has 32 CPUs then the solution is to use the affinity method. Here is just one of several examples:

Please, post the complete error message from Windows Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events. You may copy and paste here the text from the General tab.

You are still using the old 5.7 beta version. have you tried to update to the latest 5.10.0.116 version. You can use this download link:

Re: Skype won't install - Wins 7 64 bit

Yes I tried the latest version (5.10). The error is the same. I switched to the older version to see if it would fix the problem. I will try the new version again and post the error.

Here is a MR. FixIT

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/

Run this FixIT.

Temporary disable the anti-virus & Do all Windows Updates, including Software and Hardware, not just the Critical Updates. In most cases, this will resolves the issue.

Tamim

Re: Skype won't install - Wins 7 64 bit

No "MR FixIt" and even not "Sir FixIT" will help in this case.

See this post on Jira:

https://jira.skype.com/browse/SCW-3789

This is the part of the Report.wer error archive file showing the error message:

Sig[0].Name=Application Name

Sig[0].Value=Skype.exe

Sig[1].Name=Application Version

Sig[1].Value=5.10.0.116

Sig[2].Name=Application Timestamp

Sig[2].Value=50001496

Sig[3].Name=Fault Module Name

Sig[3].Value=StackHash_e98d

Sig[4].Name=Fault Module Version

Sig[4].Value=0.0.0.0

Sig[5].Name=Fault Module Timestamp

Sig[5].Value=00000000

Sig[6].Name=Exception Offset

Sig[6].Value=20202020

Sig[7].Name=Exception Code

Sig[7].Value=c0000005

Sig[8].Name=Exception Data

Sig[8].Value=00000008

Pay attention to the value of the Exception offset (20202020)

Here is the Processor info from the DxDiag.txt file:

Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2687W 0 @ 3.10GHz (32 CPUs), ~3.1GHz

Pay attention to the number of logical CPUs (32 CPUs).

This was the case in all the threads referred to in the above post.
