Skype uses more than 1GB memory. How to reduce the memory consumption???

Hi,

I've checked in my task bar and it seems skype uses more than 1GB memory. How can we reduce the memory consumption? What are the tweaks available ?

I'm using windows 7 professional edition.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sam.

Re: Skype uses more than 1GB memory. How to reduce the memory consumption???

There have been occassional posts over time about Skype using excessive memory but I've never heard of anyone reporting that it uses 1 GB.  Unfortunately, I don't know of any solution that's been found that works universally.   There has to be a conflict between Skype and some piece of hardware or software on your PC.

When Skype is idling on my Win 7 machine it uses between 85 and 90 MB.  On an HD video call I've never seen it above 160 MB.

What version of Skype are you running?  Click on Help > About Skype for the specifc verson number.

What anti-virus program?

What type display adapater?

sudhir_s,

Mine is using 163,000.  It's pretty normal to see it in the below to 100+ MB range on my computers.   So unless it's consuming ALOT more, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
