Skype not working on Windows XP, as of today

Today, after "improving my Skype experience", Skype is no longer works on my XP PC.

It complains about not being able to find "GetLogicalProcessorInformation".

I see it should be in XP SP3. And, I happen to still have SP2.

Eh, do not tell me "upgrade your Windows", ok?

I am sure this "logical processor" stuff is not important at all.

Also, you should check Windows version when "improving my experience".

Re: Skype not working on Windows XP, as of today

If you don’t update your Windows XP installation to Service Pack 3, then you will not be able to run any Skype version newer than 6.6.

The GetLogicalProcessorInformation function was first introduced in Windows XP with Service Pack 3 and was not present on older Windows XP installations.

Re: Skype not working on Windows XP, as of today

I do not want to run "newer" Skype. Yesterday, Skype worked just fine for me. Today, it does not.

Give me a chance to install old version of Skype - one that works - and do not update it "automatically" and I will be happy.

Or, if you do not care about your users, just tell that aloud.

The last Skype version that may work without updating your Windows XP to SP3 is version 6.6.0.106.

Re: Skype not working on Windows XP, as of today

The last version was 6.9.something. As I have said, it worked yesterday.

Anyway, thank you for the direct link. I have installed it and works just fine.

Thank you very much.

Re: Skype not working on Windows XP, as of today

I tried doing the same thing, installing an older version of Skype, and it did not help to fix the problem, I was wondering if there's anything else I could/should try?

Are you sure you are getting the same error [GetLogicalProcessorInformation (kernel32.dll)]?  That call doesn't even exist in Skype 6.6 or below, so I don't know how you can get that error.  Make sure you verify that 6.6 is installed or upgrade to XP Service Pack 3 (successfully), then reboot and try again.

Thread now closed as it is a classic example of a "hijacked" discussion. Remainder of discussion transferred to create new topic.
