I've just upgraded to the latest Skype (5.9) and my video setting is glomming on to an old 'USB 2.0 Camera' device from years ago that I no longer use. My Acer PC (with Windows 7) has a built-in camera -- but Skype is not showing that as a drop-down option, only the "USB camera" option which is not working.
I went into 'Devices and Printers' but the 'delete' option for the USB camera is greyed out. (I was hoping if I killed the device then Skype would recognize the built-in camera instead. But now I am thinking that wouldn't even matter.)
Does anyone have any ideas how to further troubleshoot this issue? Many thanks in advance.
exactly same problem here. downloaded 5.9 from 5.2 and my mic and web cam which are in my dell monitor disappeared completely. Running vista and dell monitor and vostro 220.
Every program I try, tell me to hook up webcam and mic????
so what do I do with the same problem? Acer Laptop has a built-in CrystalEye webCam, and skype has not recognized it
My Asus Virtual Camera has been working then today it stopped.
Ive uninstalled my camera software and reinstall but it's not that Skype is the issue.
Does anyone have any answers please ????

Try to uninstall the currently installed version and install the older 220.127.116.11 version using this msi-installer:
After installing this version, make sure to disable the Automatic updates:
Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Automatic updates ->Turn off automatic updates
