Skype not recognizing built-in webcam for video calls

I've just upgraded to the latest Skype (5.9) and my video setting is glomming on to an old 'USB 2.0 Camera' device from years ago that I no longer use.  My Acer PC (with Windows 7) has a built-in camera -- but Skype is not showing that as a drop-down option, only the "USB camera" option which is not working.

I went into 'Devices and Printers' but the 'delete' option for the USB camera is greyed out.  (I was hoping if I killed the device then Skype would recognize the built-in camera instead.  But now I am thinking that wouldn't even matter.)

Does anyone have any ideas how to further troubleshoot this issue?  Many thanks in advance.

Re: Skype not recognizing built-in webcam for video calls

Finally reinstalled drivers for webcam and it came back, as well as mic. 5.9 has some serious problem since it removes or does something to the drivers. Staying with 5.2 until I hear answer to this issue and 5.9 is corrected.

Re: Skype not recognizing built-in webcam for video calls

Try to uninstall the currently installed version and install the older 6.1.0.129 version using this msi-installer:

http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.1.0.129.msi

After installing this version, make sure to disable the Automatic updates:

Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Automatic updates ->Turn off automatic updates
