Skype not recognizing any of my functional webcams

Hello, all.

Please, if there is anything you can do to help me, I would -very- much appreciate it.

I am using an Asus N53S laptop running windows 7.

I've been using skype for two or three years now with no problems and have found it simply amazing. Recently, however, it hasn't been so kind. One day a few months ago, I logged in to find no "Video Call" button. When I go to video settings to check on my cam, it tells me I have no video camera and asks if I'd like to buy one. This happens even if my external USB camera is plugged in. (I normally use the built-in camera) Both of these cameras work perfectly with MSN, teamviewer and a few games that use cameras, none of which are open when I'm trying to make it work with skype.

Two cameras not working with skype but working -everywhere else- tells me it is an issue with skype. I have tried reinstalling skype. I have updated all drivers for both cameras. I have made sure they are enabled in the device manager and not being used.

I have googled the problem and found several people with seemingly identical symptoms but never a fix. I even tried to submit a support ticket to skype, but could not find a way to do so, so I am really hoping that I can get some support here. Nothing I do seems to be helping, and I have tried "quitting skype" a few times now for voodoo or other programs, only to come back later because of all the other features I so love.

I simply don't understand what else the problem could be. Please, if you have any ideas, let me know. To reiterate, TWO separate, functional cameras, are not recognized at all on skype despite both they and skype being fully updated and enabled after a full skype reinstall.

It's driving me mad.

Please help if you can, and thanks a ton!

Re: Skype not recognizing any of my functional webcams

Try to reset all Skype settings.

Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata%, press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old. Restart Skype.

N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

Re: Skype not recognizing any of my functional webcams

I'd found the same solution earlier through google but had had no luck; It didn't change anything at all. I'll take a second shot at it in a moment, but I'm pretty positive it won't help ><

Re: Skype not recognizing any of my functional webcams

try this:

Click Start, type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

Locate the web cam

Right click on the device and select uninstall

Also place a check mark beside the option “delete driver files for the device”

Uninstall additional webcam software from Control Panel.

Restart your computer.

Install webcam driver directly downloaded from ASUS Website

Re: Skype not recognizing any of my functional webcams

I'm not sure I understand which of the seven or so camera drivers I would need to reinstall, so I'm hesitant to begin before I'm sure, as the camera is otherwise functional and I'd hate to be driverless til I figure it out. Do you have any idea which one on the list I need to install? I use the 64 bit version of W7.

Hoping that this will work, but not very hopeful, as, again, I have two entirely different cameras that all work absolutely perfectly with anything I use them for, but skype will not detect either of them. I am quite sure it's skype that has the problem.

I'd really appreciate an explanation as to the support you're offering, as I'd like to again state that both cameras work perfectly with anything else they are ever used for. No problems. Nothing.

Then when I try to use them with skype, neither is recognized. The issue is clearly one with skype; I don't understand why external programs should be a necessity and think that the focus being outside of skype probably isn't productive. I just don't want to waste everyone's time x.x

Manycam is installed, but I'm not quite sure what you want me to do with it. Do you have any further information?

Following that guide, when I reach the video settings page, I get the same "Webcam not detected. Would you like to buy one?" That I got before installing ><

Re: Skype not recognizing any of my functional webcams

You can try to uninstall the device driver for your webcam

after that try to install your webcam driver again along with your webcam

(Instructions on my first post)

you can download your Azurewave driver from Asus website (links on my first post) or you may try this alternative link:
