Skype never lauched

Hi,

I'm running a brand new laptop.

I've downloaded Skype and installed it well. But then, it has never launched. I've never seen the Welcome page.

When I double click the shortcut, I see in the Task manager the process running and then just disappearing...

I'm using Firefox as default browser but IE 9 is working well with jscript enabled and Mr Ed simple JS tester is working well.

My system is Windows 7 64bits

It is updated (no update available in Windows Update)

I use Zone Alarm Free and MSE. Tried to disable them all but still nothing happens..

Look in Event Viewer > custom Views > Administrative Events in the time column for an error with a time stamp that coincides with when you saw Skype start then stop. If you find such and error, copy and paste the report here. That may point to what's causing your problem.

There were several other posts on the forum with the same error message. The common factor is:

 

Exception Code: c0000005

 

Exception Offset: 001b2a50

 

For one of the posters the problem was resolved by reverting Windows to a previous state by using Windows Restore Point (http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows/Skype-Crashing-When-Logging-In-Starting-Up/m-p/550381#M46625).

 

If you are sure that nothing has recently changed on you computer, then using Restore Point will probably not help. However, what you can try is to start Windows in Safe mode with networking and see if this helps. In Safe mode only the most necessary drivers and services are loaded and this will show if some of these drivers or services are responsible for Skype crash.

Skype launch well in Safe Mode. Nothing work (no webcam..) but I got the login screen...

Now how I'm going to know which process make it fail in normal mode?

I suspect Zone Alarm.  I'd start by making sure it's process is stopped in Task Manager.  If that doesn't help, you may be faced with ending non-essential processes one at a time to see if you can find the one that is conflicting with Skype.

Hi,

I finally figure out what was wrong...

Uninstalling Zone Alarm just change the error to: "Error: Unfortunately the Skype executable is corrupted"

Luckily this error was quite common and I solve it by Repairing Windows (french tutorial here: http://minu.me/6523 )

Be sure you have an updated version of Windows in the DVD player (ex 7 64bits SP1) to do it if you have the same situation.

 

Now Skype just run well

If you have a “super computer” with e.g. 32 CPU cores, then this might be the problem. In this case you may apply the “Affinity” solution.
