Before the change in skype (a few weeks ago) where the "home" window was finally hidden on startup (after popular user request), when shutting down or logging off, windows reported that skype had frozen and offered to "end it now". As reported by windows, what was frozen was "skype home". After the "home" window was hidden in a recent update, the same problem still occurs but now Windows report that skype itself is frozen and offers to kill it.
It seems there is some task in skype (associated to the "home" window) that takes too long to finish so it looks like it freezes in the logoff process. When manually exiting skype and trying to logoff after a minute or so, no problem occurs.
I would really like to see this annoying issue resolved. OS is WinXP SP3 (32bit), using Skype v18.104.22.168. Please note that this did not hapen a few months ago with an older 5.x version of Skype.
There were a few versions where some processes in Skype seemed to take a while to close after quitting Skype. That seems to be fixed in v22.214.171.124. You can download the full installer here: http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full-56
Hopefully, v5.6 will fix the too-long-to-shut-down problem for you.
