Skype disconnecting me from the internet

Problems started today.

I am using Skype 3.8.1.188

Skypemate 3.02.58

Windows XP SP3

 

When I try to make a call using skype using my phone the internet disconnects. I then physically have to "connect to internet" again, or wait 5 minutes for it to happen automatically.

 

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Skype and Skypemate.

 

Is this connected to the "skype certified phone log in problems" issue?

 

Solutions I do not want to hear include updating Skype, Skypemate, or my PC :¬)

For testing purpose, try with disabled Firewall and your Antivirus application. Try is to make sure that your Internet Explorer is not set to “Work Offline” mode. You must do this in Internet Explorer regardless which browser is your default browser.  Try to empty the Temporary Internet Files folder. Open IE –>Tools -> Internet Options -> General. Press “Settings” button in the Browsing history section and then “View files” folder. This will open a Windows Explorer folder with the temporary files. Delete all the files in this folder. Now make Skype refresh the Home window. You can do this by changing the View from Default to Compact or vice versa. You should also check your own connection status. The icon left to your name must be solid green with a white checkmark inside. Try to change the connection status manually using the dropdown button next to this icon.            If that doesn't work, try these steps.  1. If Step 1 fails or you are NOT using WIN7 do:   Open an Internet Explorer browser, and go to https://login.skype.com/account/login-form?intcmp=​sign-in&return_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.skype.com... what happens?   If it fails, Please do the instructions below. Using your Windows Control Panel, please do:   Internet Options -> Advanced Tab Please click the "Reset" button.   Then, Go to the Connections Tab.   Make sure that the only checkbox checked is "Automatically detect settings", then click the "OK" button.   Close any open Internet Explorer browser windows, open a new IE browser window and try https://login.skype.com/account/login-form?intcmp=​sign-in&return_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.skype.com... again. What happens? If it works, please stop/start Skype What happens?   2. If Step 1 does NOT solve the problem:   Please install the normal version using the instructions below:   You can install the Current release by clicking this link: http://www.skype.com/go/getskype Please do NOT remove what you already have installed, simply, install over. Sorry it's all bunched together, I'm on my iPhone right now and it won't let me space anything out when I finalise my posts. :/

It started working again about 4 hours ago, but now has stopped.

 

What happens is that I dial a number but get not signal from the other end, then my internet connection drops. This is why I assume it is a skype issue rather than a problem with my PC.

Is there a way for paying customers to actually contact Skype? I don't seem to be able to find details.

It is pretty rediculos how difficult it is to contact Skype from a SKYPE WEBPAGE. But I found a little cheat that will give you three was. Sorry for it being all jammed together, I'm on my iPhone and it does it automatically. Here you go. -Click this link. https://support.skype.com/support_selection/ -Sign in to your account (if you’re not signed in already). Choose the help topic Payments and the related problem Refund requests. At the bottom of the page, click Continue support request.

It's fixed - it was definitely a Skype server problem - no changes to my setting, but at the moment it is all connecting properly.

 

I did email Skype support, whose only advise was "update to a new version of skype"

 

As I only use Skype for the telephone, the newer version is of absolutely no use to me at all.
