Skype 5.5 on Windows 7 "Stopped working" error

Upgraded to 5.5 and have had nothing but problems with the "Skype has  stopped working"  error from Windows.

I have went through the support threads there and have done the following.

-Checked compatibility mode is off

-Removed temp files

-Removed shared .xml

- Have done 3 clean re installs

- Reset IE explorer

I am out of options and do not know what to do next. Any help here at all?

Re: Skype 5.5 on Windows 7 "Stopped working" error

Ive done all those, as you can tell from the description of the things I have done already. I am looking for anything else that may be causing this crash.

Re: Skype 5.5 on Windows 7 "Stopped working" error

in your initial post you only specified 5 procedures, but in the thread I provided, there are more than five, so I thought there are still some steps who haven't done yet.  well, disregard.

If you are using Win7 Please try this:

Open Windows Event Viewer. Go to Custom Views -> Administrative Events. Look for the recent error messages. Click on any errors and post the details here if they happen at the time things fail.

Otherwise do this:

Using your Windows Control Panel:

Adminstrator Tools -> Event Viewer

Click on System and later Applications, do you see any errors logged during the times this happens, if so what errors ("If you click on the errors you can get more details and copy/paste them here")?

Also, please check times after you reboot to see if any errors are produced when you system is restarting.

Are you current with ALL Windows Updates and any Updates from your manufacturers web site for your system and any attached devices?

Re: Skype 5.5 on Windows 7 "Stopped working" error

Overlord,

This seems to get to 22% and then stops saying...

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"

"Details are included in the cbs.log file windir/logs/cbs/cbs.log"

Im almost to the point of putting a fresh copy of windows on here and starting over.

Well, it does seem like your system has some corrupt files.
