Not connected to Internet - But I am

Hello.

I have just installed Skype and it works fine finding other users.

However when I try to buy som CREDIT it says I am not connected to Internet.

Windows XP SP3 - wireless connection with Belkin.

Please advice.

Please follow these Steps:

 

1. Only do Step 1 if you are on WIN7:

 

Stop Skype.

 

Be sure that Compatibility Mode is not enabled (right-click on Skype shortcut icon/launcher and select Properties >> Compatibility) - for Windows 7 users only.

 

Try to launch Skype.

 

2. If Step 1 fails or you are NOT using WIN7 do:

 

Open an Internet Explorer browser, and go to https://login.skype.com/account/login-form?intcmp=sign-in&return_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.skype.com%... , what happens?

 

If you see a message box that contains a connect button, please click on the connect button.

 

If the page fails to display, Please do the instructions below. Using your Windows Control Panel, please do:

 

Internet Options -> Advanced Tab Please click the "Reset" button.

 

Then, Go to the Connections Tab.

 

Make sure that the only checkbox checked is "Automatically detect settings", then click the "OK" button.

 

Close any open Internet Explorer browser windows, open a new IE browser window and try https://login.skype.com/account/login-form?intcmp=sign-in&return_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.skype.com%... again. What happens? If it works, please stop/start Skype What happens?

 

3. If Step 2 does NOT solve the problem:

 

Please install the normal version using the instructions below:

 

You can install the Current release by clicking this link: http://download.skype.com/SkypeSetup.exe

Please do NOT remove what you already have installed, simply, install over.

 

 

These instructions have worked for many and is the quickest thing to try to resolve issues such as this.

 

Also, what operating system are you on?

 

What is the Make and Model of your computer?

 

Do you have all Windows updates and updates to any hardware devices by the manufacturers?

You are very welcome, glad to help.

 

It should be noted that the newer versions of the Skype client programs for Windows require that IE ("Internet Explorer") is installed and working properly, because they use IE internally/programatically even if the person never uses IE or IE is not the default browser. So, most likely, this is the cause of this issue in this case.

Thanks TheUberOverLord - Problem solved.

The real reason I assume would be like you said Internet Explorer.

 

What I did:

1. Upgraded software and removed firewall in modem BELKIN.

2. Reset IE - Tools => Options => Advanced.

3. Removed add-ons in IE.

4. Windows update.

thanks for that bit of info - i reinstalled skype and the error message has disappeared.

Thanks for giving me a place to start. Why doesn't SKYPE give us company support? I pay monthly and when I have acount
questions, they seem to be hiding.

internet connections

i can sign into skype with my password.  i am then told that my internet connection is not working.  although, i can get into my email, internet, etc.  please help.

Check your connection Settings

In Internet Explorer, Go to, Tools >> Internet Options... >> Connections>> Lan settings , Use a proxy server... if it had been ticked, then... Remove that check. Make sure automatically detect settings is enabled. (Marked)

In Skype Click Tools >> Click Connection options...
type any port between 1024 and 65535
check this settings "use port 80 and 443.....incoming connections"
... if it had been ticked, then... Remove that check and try then.
try disabling uPnP too.
