I can hear my own voice?

I've noticed that when I'm talking to people on Skype, I can hear my own voice. It's not an echo, although I can only hear my own voice when talking to certain people on skype.

This wouldn't be a problem (I'm used to it by now), except for the fact that when I move my mic boom up (my headset, a Plantronics .Audio 655, has a feature that mutes the mic when the boom is raised), Skype channels my audio out as my microphone, so other people in the call can hear what I hear. I  don't want this. How can I stop this?

Thanks.
