Getting a second skype account on the same laptop

I have followed the instructions as quoted by skype:

If this solution fails, you can try another option:

  1. Find the Skype executable file (Skype.exe) in: C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\
  2. Right click on it and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)
  3. Locate the shortcut on the desktop, then right-click on it and select Properties
  4. In the Target field, add: /secondary. The Target field should now be "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /secondary
  5. Click OK. You can now start a new instance of Skype every time you double-click the new shortcut.

I created the shortcut OK, got into properties and in the target field I have:  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone" so when I put in the "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /secondary (cut & pasted so no mistakes!) I get a message box to say the name in target is not valid.  Make sure the path & file name are correct.

I also tried just adding /secondary to my original bit in the target field when I opened properties.

Help!  Isn't there an easier way to add a new account/name - all this is only to give my husband & I separate skype accounts!!??

Many thanks

Re: Getting a second skype account on the same laptop

The quoted instructions were for 32-bit Windows, yours is 64-bit. In this case the correct path in the Target field of the new shortcut should be:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe”  /secondary
