FIX: Skype Crashing on Windows 7 (IT WORKS)

Repost:
To the guy/girl who made this Thank you, but you forgot one part.
1. Open Run
2. Type
%appdata%\Skype
From here you will go to skype folder (FolderRoaming)
3. Find the file named Shared.xml, and the Shared.lck , then delete them.
4. Log on to skype again, it should work normally.
5. If that does not work, go back and check again to make sure the files still aren't there.

Good luck all.

Re: FIX: Skype Crashing on Windows 7 (IT WORKS)

Hi,

I tried it, but it didn't work for me; however, cleaning the registry has helped me.

It seemed to me a problem with the registry files or perhaps a software conflict. Therefore, the first thing I did was that uninstalled Skype from the computer. Then, cleaned my registry, using "Eusing Free Registry Cleaner." Then, restarted the computer and download Skype again. It worked for me!

YOU CAN GET "Eusing Free Registry Cleaner" from http://download.cnet.com/Eusing-Free-Registry-Cleaner/3000-2094_4-10521691.html

Download and Reinstall the new Skype 5.7 beta version. See if it helps.

If not resolve this issue, then

Please do a Skype reset:

1. Ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is switched on.

Click Start and then Run Type "control folders" and click OK. In the View tab, ensure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled

2. Exit Skype : From the system tray >> right click on the skype icon and click "Quit Skype"

3. Click Start >> Run Type: %appdata% Rename folder "Skype" to "Old_Skype"

4. Re-run Skype

Check if the issue persists

Tamim

Re: FIX: Skype Crashing on Windows 7 (IT WORKS)

I have re-installed Skype, cleaned registry, upgraded now tp beta 7, deleted the shared.xml and shared.ick (they just keep appearing again) - and program still crashes.

Its amazing to me that Skype has no solution for this?  I am a paying customer, I buy hundreds of dollars of phone credit a year.

Open Windows Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events. Look for any recent error messages with timestamp corresponding to Skype crash.
