Error when installing Skype on Windows 7

Hello,

When I try to install skype on windows 7 Professional, I have the following error message: Error when trying to create the directory : C\users\<user name>\AppData and then I have to stop the installation.

Does anyone has an idea of how to overcome that error?.

Thanks in advance

Re: Error when installing Skype on Windows 7

Most likely, your Windows registry database contains wrong data on location of user special folders. Hopefully you can fix this using the procedure provided here:

Re: Error when installing Skype on Windows 7

Many thanks for your post that is very interesting. However it seems to apply only to installation problems with Microsoft programmes and the problem I have is in installing Skype.

Anyhow, in the registry the only difference I have found with the parameters listed in the article number : 886549 is that in the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

there is a sub-key named CD Burning not listed in the article number : 886549, but I do not see the possible influence with skype. Am I missing something important? or should we look for another possible cause?.

Thanks for any reply.

Re: Error when installing Skype on Windows 7

Is the registry value for AppData “%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming”?

Go to Windows Start and in the Search box type this value, i.e. %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming and then press Enter. What do you see now?
