Empty sign in screen on upgraded Skype

Hi All, thanks in advance for any help...just upgraded Skype on my laptop (Windows Vista 32 bit Version 6) and now all I get is an empty sign in screen when I launch Skype...worked fine less than a month ago, and today when I first ran the program, it auto-upgraded and now wont work...have unistalled, re-installed 2 times, rebooted, etc. since and the same thing....

 

Any ideas??

Your problem is fairly common and is caused by a JavaScript malfunction in Internet Explorer, even if you don't use IE as your normal browser.   Fellow user ruwim came up with these steps you can try to correct the issue:

 

Go to Windows Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on Command Prompt, select 'Run as administrator'.

 

The Command Prompt window should show:

 

C:\Windows\System32>

 

If this is not the case, then in the Command Prompt type:  cd c:\windows\system32 and press Enter.

 

Type this and then press Enter:

 

regsvr32 jscript.dll

 

Next, if you have Internet Explorer 9 (skip this step if you're still on IE 8) type this and press Enter:

 

regsvr32 jscript9.dll

 

After each Enter you should receive a message saying that DllRegisterServer in XXX.dll succeeded.

 

Reboot your computer.

 

Make now the test showing if your Internet Explorer can execute JavaScript.

 

Open in your Internet Explorer (no other browser but only IE) this page:

 

http://www.mistered.us/test/alert.shtml

 

Click on the “Simply Click This Button” button and watch the response.

OK, ran as administrator and it says exactly what it should say...C:\Windows\System32>

 

I type in regsvr32 jscript.dll and I get an error message (attached image) and when i open IE 9 the test doesnt work...I go to options and active scripting is enabled...

 

what next??

edit:  Did you get that error message when you typed

 

regsvr32 jscript9.dll or when you typed regsvr32 jscript.dll ?

Honestly, didnt realize the first regsvr was missing the 9....

typed in the first line, no problem, says it succeeded...now i get that error message after the regsver32 jscript9.dll.....

If I were at your point in troubleshooting I'd uninstall IE9.  See if you can signin to Skype properly with IE 8.  Then, if that works, I'd reinstall IE9 from scratch.

 

That's all I can come up with at the moment.

If I knew how to do that, i would, I cant stand IE...thats probably the problem because when I come to this forum on IE, there's no order to the page, all the writing is off and it looks plain garbled....

Im sure MS auto updated something that made it go off, because, after a reboot, again, that javascript test still doesnt work in IE, but it works just fine in my Firefox browser...
