Can't get past homepage screen

I just downloaded Skype for my mom on her computer.  I can log in with no problem, but then on the home screen, it doesn't ever go past the blue "thinking/working" circle.  I can click on Profile and view her profile, but can't do anything else, including add contacts.

Re: Can't get past homepage screen

What is the version of Internet Explorer installed on this computer? In Internet Explorer go to Help -> About Internet Explorer.

What do you see when you open these links in Internet Explorer (must be IE 32-bit version, even if you are using another browser)?

https://apps.skype.com/home/

https://apps.skype.com/friendfinder/

P.S. Please, don’t say that you are not using Internet Explorer. This is irrelevant. Skype depends on Internet Explorer.

Re: Can't get past homepage screen

She's using IE8.

When I go to the Home link, it shows the blue loading circle.

When I go to Friend Finder, it opens the blue screen with clouds.  Both of those are exactly what I see when trying to open both in Skype itself.

I did find a topic on the forum that said if using Skype 5.2 or 5.3 for Windows, this will happen and that you can still use all the functions.  However, I am having this issue in Skype 5.1

Re: Can't get past homepage screen

I guess I won't worry about it too much...even though she can't add contacts right now, she can accept requests and can still send video calls - I just tested it out with mine.  If you figure out why I keep seeing the blue loading screen, would love to try and solve the problem, but as long as she can call out, that's all we need for now!

Re: Can't get past homepage screen

The problem is with your Internet Explorer and JavaScript.

Please, answer first these questions:

What version of Windows are you on? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?

What is the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer?

In Internet Explorer go to Help -> About Internet Explorer.

Re: Can't get past homepage screen

Try first to update Internet Explorer to the latest IE9 version. This may resolve the issue. If not, then you will need to make proper registrations of JavaScript components.

Re: Can't get past homepage screen

I'm having the same problem. The menu bar just doesn't show up anywhere. Adding contacts isn't possible without that. I have IE9, Windows Vista, and system is 32-bit. What do I do?

Try with this:

Go to Windows Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on Command Prompt, select 'Run as administrator'.

The Command Prompt window should show:

C:\Windows\System32>

If this is not the case, then in the Command Prompt type:  cd c:\windows\system32 and press Enter.

Type this and then press Enter:

regsvr32 jscript.dll

Next type this and press Enter:

regsvr32 jscript9.dll

After each Enter you should receive a message saying that DllRegisterServer in XXX.dll succeeded.

Reboot your computer.

Make now the test showing if your Internet Explorer can execute JavaScript.

Open in your Internet Explorer (no other browser but only IE) this page:

Click on the “Simply Click This Button” button and watch the response.
