audio cuts out when starting app

If I have music playing and start the app, it cuts out for a few seconds. It does so again when going through contacts.

Please fix this. Skype nearly blew up my $300 pair of headphones. I have the volume usually set to 5% and when I launched Skype, the program automatically blasts the volume up for a few seconds before switching back to the initial volume levels.
