It's clear and simple to use. The fact that it integrates Messenger, text and Facebook chat is an amazing feature.
It's literally the one stop place for all messaging and it's an extremely useful and valuable feature.
One problem is that Skype messages don't appear here, instead they go to a separate app.
It makes sense to include Skype to the Messaging Hub.
Looking at the Messaging Hub and Skype app side by side, the layout and how you actually view messages is so much clearer on the Messaging Hub.
It's actually pointless having chat on the Skype app, and annoying that it's not integrated.
It drives me CRAZY when I'm chatting with someone on my computer and I'm getting all the notifications about that chat on my phone and on my tablet (if it happens to be on, of course). Can't you somehow make the entire Skype "aware" that you are at your computer so there's no need to send notifications to your other devices at that moment? Please, do something about it.
GDR 3.0 update finally enables custom notification sounds for apps. It would be awesome if Skype would use their own chat sound so we can know which app triggered a notification without even looking at the phone.
having a "sent delivered read" feature would be great as it would allow people to know if there message has got through to the person they sent it to, and on a mobile this is more important as you don't always know if you have a signal.
whatsapp, facebook and BBM are just a few examples that implement this well.
It kinda amazed me something like this isn't in Skype yet but i really like apps like Twitter to give me the option to switch to a black theme, since my phone is black and the screen is a Amoled screen it saves me a lot of battery, Skype is my most used app but this doesn't allow me to switch to a black theme, it would really fit with the rest of the OS for me instead of "just another app"
The duplication on a functional and visual standpoint is just messy and confusing. At least copy the Windows concept of linking if you're not able to integrate contacts.
The log-in for Skype is unintuitive. Maybe it's time to do away with the Skype log in and sensibly switch everything to Microsoft Account log in.
I find the Facebook log in pointless and seems to me just pandering to Facebook. Which is just bizarre. By adding another complication, it's diluting the message or concept of having one account across all services.
Please absorb Skype accounts with MS accounts and scrap the pointless and confusing Facebook log in.
Just like on the desktop app where I can add more people to a call, or directly form a group and call, I wish this feature would be made available on the windows phone as well.
On my Lumia 820, skype and wp8 fully updated, when someone calls and i pick up the app will say connecting forever and in some situations when i got back to the app it says resuming for so long that i have to quit it altogether. i dont know what is causing this but its very frustrating as i am a student living away from home and my family calls at random times and i need it to work on my phone so i can answer wherever i am. In other news, I got a Surface Pro 2 and the skype on that is very fluent but i cant seem to share screens or add people to a call.
SMS to mobiles is a must.

Horizontal screen layout when typing in chat. Please create a separate idea for that. Send/Receive photos. Separate idea here
While I appreciate the Skype team asking for suggestions on new features, the Skype experience is so horrible that I'd rather they focused solely on bug fixing than devote resources to adding more features. The syncing of messages and calls across devices is probably the worst compared to any other instant messaging client amongst all the mobile ecosystems and while I know the team is working on fundamental changes and becoming more cloud-based, which would help with syncing conversations across devices, this cannot be done faster. Any comparable client (Viber, for example, almost instantly syncs my conversations between my phone and desktop) beats Skype by miles in this aspect. Also, the notifications need to seriously be improved. I often don't get any notification at all for incoming calls or messages (I've kept Skype as one of the apps able to show a quick status on my lockscreen and even the functionality there is horrible), only for me to find multiple missed calls when I open the app.
I have Skype on:
My Windows Phone
My Android Tablet
My College Mac
and my personal Windows 8.1 Laptop
And every time I downloaded Skype for the first time on those Devices I had to re-add my favourite contacts, They didnt automatically get added.
This seems like a fairly simple feature to implement,
It would be nice to be able to control Skype via Speech.
Skype, Call John.
Skype, Call John on mobile.
Skype, answer that Skype call.
Skype, add Marry to the call.
Skype, remove John from the call.
Skype, send a message to Joe "foo bar"
I would really like you add function to send images, files or other on skype for windows phone ! It's really a lack for those who wish to share something with their Skype contacts and have to go through complicated and devious ways to do this. Approve of my idea ! (Sorry for my very bad english ! Live google translate !!)
like the title sugest adding a group video call option would be awesome!
this feature is availble on oovoo but this app is not on windows phone so skype should incorporate this feture after reducing battery consumption. and perhapes also add it to windows 8 app version aswell
